Sarasota Food Blog - SRQ Chew - Black Gold Coffee Roasters

Roasting day at Black Gold Roasters in Venice smells like heaven. Owner and master roaster, Gary R. Lauters II invited me back to see and smell where the coffee goodness happens.

Lauters has been roasting coffee for ten years. He purchased his coffee roaster after visiting the production facility in Fallon, Nevada.  The coffee roaster is stunning! It is handcrafted and built to old world standards.  Truly artisan through and through.  The roaster helps to accent the amazingly sophisticated and clean notes of the green coffee Lauters buys.

I listen to Gary talk about his love for coffee and watch him smell the beans every few minutes for that perfect smell and waiting for the exact moment when the beans are done roasting to dump them into the cooling tray.  The consistency of the roasted beans, the size, shape and color indicate a very high quality of coffee.  I can tell he is serious about his craft and love what he does. Lauters takes extreme care to custom roast each kind of bean whether it’s Colombian, Ethiopian or Guatemalan to bring out the best favor profile the bean can offer. Gary's organic and clean approach to life carries over to his philosophy on how coffee should be made from beginning to end. This attention to detail makes Black Gold Coffee Roasters one of my favorite places for a cup of joe.

Check out their lunch and breakfast offerings. You may also purchase Black Gold Coffee online at blackgoldroasters.com for home delivery.

Black Gold Coffee Roasters is located at 2385 East Venice Avenue in Venice at the Jacaranda Commons shopping center.

Thank you, Gary and to your groovy staff for your hospitality and incredible coffee.
