Sarasota Food Blog - SRQ Chew - Donuts

d o n u t s

The community is so happy to welcome La Dona Donuts to the foodie town that is Sarasota. The donuts are truly gourmet and so good. The donut peeps are very friendly, too. The crazy flavors include Cookies & Creme, Dulce de Leche, Cinnamon Roll, Butterfinger, Fluffer Nutter just to name a few. They also welcome flavor suggestions. I had the Pumpkin Spiced donut with cream cheese glaze. It was perfect for Fall. I will definitely be back for the Fruity Pebbles donut. Check out their incredible and unique menu that changes weekly.

You know you love donuts when you drive an hour and forty five minutes to get them. The Donut Experiment on Anna Maria Island is one of my favorite places to indulge. A really fun and quaint atmosphere. When you walk up to the counter you are greeted by chipper donut peeps and a sheet to fill out to custom make your donut. It all starts with a fresh, warm cake donut. The next step is to pick your icing. The icings come in carmel, chocolate, vanilla, key lime, and maple. Then comes choosing your topping or toppings. The topping options are fantastic. You can top your donut with sea salt, bacon, Siracha or Fruity Pebbles just to name a few. Get as crazy as you want. The Donut Experiment is a great place to have breakfast before going to the beautiful beaches on the island. Well worth the drive from Sarasota or Tampa.

Yummies Donuts & BBQ is another really good place to satisfy your craving. Yummies is very well loved by the locals. Located in Venice on Englewood Road for about 25 years, they will soon be moving  to 2001 S. Tamiami Trail and tripling their space. I first fell in love with Yummies at my church. For weeks I asked who made these great donuts and finally found out. Soon after the donut mystery was solved, my family and I went there. We walked rather squeezed into this tiny trailer filled with donuts, bagels and all the wonderful smells that come with bread and sugar. The woman at the counter was full of smiles and patience as we tried to figure  out what we wanted among all the fantastic choices. I look forward to going to their new store very very soon.  Check out their website for details and for the grand opening. They are still open on Englewood.
